The purpose of the Southern Maryland Chapter of NAASC is:

To provide a channel of communication between the alumnae located in Southern Maryland or its vicinity and Spelman College located in Atlanta, GA;
To sustain interest in the welfare of Spelman College;
To promote growth of the college through financial support individually and collectively,
To unite and promote fellowship among Spelman women;
To stimulate an interest among young women and, whenever possible, an opportunity for them to attend Spelman;
To promote community interest in the college in the area served by the chapter;
To foster an awareness and whenever possible an involvement in national, regional, and local concerns of the association;
To promote the continuing growth and development of alumnae through mutual self-help; leadership opportunities; and various cooperative activities; and
To honor Spelman women who have given outstanding service to Spelman College, their community or profession.
